ABOUT THE RANCH

Irrigation and Hay Production: The Kaufmann Quarter Horse Ranch is a productive property currently producing 150± tons of excellent horse hay annually. A new 3-tower Reinke center pivot, low-pressure irrigation system irrigates approximately 40 acres of newly planted grass-alfalfa hay. Irrigation water is diverted from Rock Creek and flows through the Prince Albert Ditch to a buried pipeline on the ranch and then flows into sod ditches and gated pipe for flood irrigation of the remaining meadows. The total irrigated acreage of the ranch is 160. This irrigation water has an 1883 Wyoming Territorial appropriation. A new head gate and dam were installed in 2007.
Livestock Operations: The Kaufmann Quarter Horse Ranch has been utilized for many years for breeding and training registered Quarter horses. Under the present operation, the ranch supports 30 head of horses year around and 35 head of yearling heifers for eight months.
HORSE TRAINING FACILITIES
The 72’ x 205’ (14,760 sq. ft) Morton [brand name] indoor arena has an attached 36’ x 72’ (2,592 sq. ft.) Morton Stall Barn with 8 box stalls, tack room, bathroom and feed storage area. Other improvements include three Morton open-face sheds (one is 12’ x 40’, and two are 12’ x 32’), a 12’ x 24’ open-face moveable shed (on skids) that has Morton steel siding and roofing, a small shop/storage building, and a large outdoor roping arena.
WILDLIFE AND NATURAL RESOURCES
Approximately ¾ mile of Clear Creek flows through the property. Rainbow and Brown Trout fishing is considered excellent along this stretch of the beautiful Clear Creek drainage. The large groves of mature cottonwood and evergreen trees (pine and blue spruce), the willow patches along the creek, and the interspersed hay meadows provide excellent cover and forage for white-tailed deer, wild turkeys, eagles, hawks, pheasants, ducks, geese, fox and occasional antelope and mule deer.
