THE LOCATION

Lost Creek Mountain Pasture is located on the western slope of the Big Horn Mountains approximately 40 miles south of Ten Sleep, Wyoming.  The northern portion of the property lies in Washakie County; the southern portion in Natrona County.

Ten Sleep (population 375) is located 26 miles east of Worland, the county seat of Washakie County. Worland (population 5,500±), the County Seat, is located in the Big Horn Basin and continues to be an extremely stable, thriving community economically driven by farming, ranching and energy production.  Various retail outlets, banks, restaurants, equipment dealers, churches and commercial air service make it a well-rounded marketing center.

Access from Ten Sleep is via the Upper Nowood Road (County Road 82) to Cherry Creek Road (County Road 80), seasonal-use roads. The road leading from Cherry Creek Road into and through the Lost Creek Mountain Pasture is a two-track dirt road. One must pass through property owned by neighboring ranchers in order to reach the boundary of Lost Creek Mountain Pasture; legal recorded access agreements are in the process of being executed.

ABOUT THE PROPERTY

The Lost Creek Mountain property is situated in the foothills along the western slopes of the Big Horn Mountains and is quite isolated. At an altitude ranging from 7500’ to 8500’ feet, it offers excellent summer pasture and, historically, has been utilized for summer grazing of cattle for a 3 month period from July 1st through October 1st each year.  The terrain is varied — consisting of open sagebrush habitat typical for Wyoming rangelands with dense pockets of pine and aspen groves that provide excellent protection for livestock and wildlife.

Six different streams/creeks flow through the property — namely, Lost Creek, Little Lost Creek and its tributaries — and eventually become a primary water source of the Nowood River.  The streams and creeks flow on a year-round basis and supply all the water for livestock and wildlife.

Water rights for the property are limited to two developed springs, one at each of the two abandoned cabin sites.

The property is divided into two separate pastures (North Unit and South Unit) and is owner rated at 300-350 cow pairs for a 3-month period (July 1st—October 1st).

WILDLIFE AND HUNTING OPPORTUNITIES

Several herds of elk and mule deer reside in the area. Bull elk can be heard bugling in the fall as they wander through dense pockets of pine and aspen groves. Year-round streams flow through deep draws and supply an adequate supply of water.

The owner of this property is allocated two landowner elk tags for Elk Hunt Area 48; the property is also located in Mule Deer Hunt Areas 35 & 40.
